The moon of the Arabic Shawwal month of 1440 Hizri has not been sighted anywhere in Bangladesh sky, said the state minister of religious affairs and moon sighting committee Chairman Sheikh Md Abdullah.
The minister made this disclosure after a meeting of the National Moon-Sighting Committee at the Islamic Foundation conference room at the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram in the capital on Tuesday evening.
He also said that though crescent of the Shawwal month was not sighted the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across the country on Thursday.He also greeted the countrymen of a happy Eid-ul-Fitr.
Earlier, National Moon-Sighting Committee sat in a meeting after the Maghrib prayers (at 7:15pm) to decide the date of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the Muslims, with the state minister of religious affairs and moon sighting committee Chairman Sheikh Md Abdullah in the chair.
Shamim Mohammad Afzal, Director General of Islamic Foundation Bangladesh, the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram, members of National Moon Sighting committee and senior Alem-Ulamas were present at the meeting.
Referring district Islamic Foundation offices, Bangladesh Meteorological Department, state minister Sheikh Md Abdullah told the media that the moon of the Arabic Shawwal month of 1440 Hizri was not sighted on Tuesday, June 4 of 2019.
